Trailblazer SS Oil Pan Info

The factory oil pickup tube in the Trailblazer SS is located in the front of the oil pan. Because of that under hard acceleration the oil can slosh to the rear of the pan uncovering the oil pickup tube and compromising the engine.

The best solution is to relocate the pickup tube to the rear of the oil pan for a good supply of oil under all conditions. This kit includes a professionally welded tube and also includes splash trays to further control oil slosh. This kit does not require the engine to be removed for installation. Another modification that should be done to the Trailblazer SS oil pan is to delete the oil pressure relief valve. The main oil pressure relief valve is on the oil pump and the secondary oil pressure relief valve in the oil pan is not necessary and can actually cause oil pressure issues. On my last build I saw max oil pressure go from 55 psi to 70+ psi just by removing this secondary relief valve. The plug can be pushed out and the hole tapped to 1/2″ NPT.

Here is the oil pan tube with pressure relief valve. I have air pressure checked this valve and fount it to start opening around 20 psi and was fully open at 45 psi.

The best way to remove this valve is simply lay the tube on a soft surface and use a rubber mallet to hit the valve downwards.
It will pop right out with little force.

Next you will want to mount the oil tube so that you can tap the hole to 1/2″ NPT. No drilling is necessary. Its already the appropriate size.

Next you can screw in the plug and you are all done!
